IBM authoring software

Can anyone give me some suggestions for DOS authoring
programs for beginning multimedia projects.  I've heard
that Linkway Live is fairly complicated.  I really don't
want to spend weeks teaching how to use the software--I'd
rather used something that students can learn in a
class period or two, so that they spend more time on the
information end of the project.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
