Our high school faculty is working toward a consistent approach across the
curriculum for documentation of reference papers/projects. The debate
is basically over the use of parenthetical references vs. endnotes. A very
vocal social studies teacher insists that college and university history
professors have indicated to him (recently) that ENDNOTES are the proper
format for reference documentation. Most other teachers encourage the
parenthetical approach. I would appreciate suggestions and responses
relative to how your high schools teach documentation, as well as any
clues to what the higher ed. folks expect in their student work.
