A discussion of how to reach young library users with ideas about the care and handling of books and other preservation themes has been the focus of recent meetings of the Education and Outreach Discussion Group of the ALA Preservation of Library Materials Section (PLMS). To further this discussion, School and Children's librarians are invited to join their Preservation colleagues for a meeting in Miami. The perspective of librarians who work directly with children and young adults will provide a much needed complement to preservation expertise among PLMS members. Some of the issues raised in previous meetings: How to handle books and other materials Food and drink in libraries Teaching children about bookbinding and book arts Preservation posters and other media appropriate for children Possible programs for girl scouts, boy scouts, youth groups Please join us in Miami: PLMS Education and Outreach Discussion Group June 27, 11:30-12:30, Omni-LaBrisa Also of interest for school and children's librarians: "Selling Preservation: What to Say to the Customer" June 27, 2:00-5:00, Miami Beach Convention Center This program will address practical strategies for public, school, academic, and special libraries. Handouts and exhibits of successful preservation campaigns will be included.
