Having been a high school English teacher for several years and a community college freshman English teacher fairly recently, I believe that the colleges and even specific departments within the colleges will teach whatever documentation method they want their students to use. That should take the pressure off of high school teachers, whose job is to teach students how to take material that is not their own, weave it together, and to give credit for it in a systematic way. Students should be taught to follow the guide that is used in their school--be it high school, college, or grad. school. We all know that documentation styles change, and the student who has been out of high school for ten years or more was taught a different method of documentation anyway and will need to learn whatever method is currently used.
