Many of you answered me with much the same suggestion--find out the state requirements. I did that. However, Kentucky has gone KERA and finding current state requirements is out of the question. The result of my research was that we we already out of compliance with ALA standards, and would be out of compliance with Kentucky's former standards if we increased our enrollment by only 10 students. (We.re right now in a rapid growth spurt, due to a messy public school system situation) Which is why we need new classrooms, hence the remodeling. I called the KY representative for the Southern Association. He said he was sure that the least the Southern Association would require was that we at least meet Kentucky standards. (after all, Kentucky is not one of the nation's leaders in education) The board met, without me there, my principal and the future planner "represented" the library interests. The construction workers moved in the next day. The principal said they didn't buy the accreditation problem. The director of future planning said that they chose the cheapest solution. The director of development i.e. fund raiser gets the back 1/4 of the library. Thanks for your help, everyone. But, in my situation, the best suggestion I received was the one which said "when life gives you a lemon, make lemonade!" Actually, I have bought the CD of the Gregorian chants, and do a lots of soothing listening when I get home from having to move EVERY BOOK AND BOOK CASE out of the library.
