Children's Literature of the 50's

I am looking for the title of a book written in the late 40's or eary 50's.
I have been searching for this book for years.  I read it in 1953.  The
book is about three monkeys whose mother is killed at the beginning of the
story, and they begin a trek to find their father.  The book was
illustrated, and I can remember on of the monkeys carried a musket and they
