Recent noteworthy additions to the ED/OERI Gopher Server include:

Technology
----------
EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY:  TOOLS FOR TRANSFORMING TEACHING AND LEARNING,
is a guide prepared by the Department's Office of Educational
Technology for teachers, administrators, coordinators and community
members with an interest in using technology to improve education
for all students.  The full text is available under:

The full text of the Secretary of Education's May 25th testimony
before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and
Transportation on S.1822, The Telecommunications Act of 1994,

The full text of the 1994 edition of EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT WORK,
THE CATALOG OF THE NATIONAL DIFFUSION NETWORK (NDN) is available
under:

      National Diffusion Network (NDN)/
         Educational Programs That Work (EPTW) 1994/

The catalog includes a complete description of each active NDN
program, as well as general information on the NDN program and a
directory of the Facilitators in each state who can assist in
program identification and adoption.

The catalog is produced by Sopris West, Inc., 1140 Boston
Avenue, Longmont, Colorado 80501, (303) 651-2829, at its own
expense.  Printed copies are available from Sopris.

The ED/OERI Gopher Server is continuously updated with new press
releases, grant announcements, publication summaries, and
statistical datasets.  New material on GOALS 2000, School-to-Work,
and ESEA Schoolwides is also added frequently.  To quickly find
new items on the Gopher, follow the path:

   What's New in This Gopher/
      What's New (Format: nn=#days back or mm/dd/yy=since date) <?>

and enter a search string in one of the formats indicated.  The
Gopher will quickly build you a menu of items added or changed
during that time.

Access Instructions
-------------------

The ED/OERI Gopher server can be accessed by pointing your Gopher
client software to:

     gopher.ed.gov

or select

     North America-->USA-->General-->U.S. Department of Education
     from All/Other Gophers in the World.

FTP users can access the information (same material available on
Gopher server) by ftping to:

     ftp.ed.gov       (log on anonymous)

The ED/OERI WWW server can be accessed by pointing your WWW client
software to our uniform resource locator (URL):

     http://www.ed.gov/

Please note that we do not offer public access Gopher or WWW
clients.  You cannot access our server by telneting to our site.
You must either have an appropriate Gopher or WWW client, such as
NCSA Mosaic or Lynx, at your site or be able to telnet to a public
access client elsewhere.
