The picture book you want is SWEET CLARA AND THE FREEDOM QUILT which I have read to almost all grade levels in elementary school, and I have not been able to finish it without a catch in my voice at the end. It is great. Sorry, but I forgot the author. What a thing to say from a librarian! Tamah Graber
