Sandy,
   I'd think stretch wrap would cut down dramatically on the amount of
dust that accumulates during a rennovation if you seal it well. Boxes may
still let dust in. (No matter _what_ they promise, they _will_ make a mess!)
   Also, unless you get boxes designed to hold books, the bottoms may
burst especially if they get moved around much. If you wrap the books to a
shelf that won't happen.
   If you're going to have to pack AV materials as well, stretch wrap
could be helpful there also.
