L'Engle's House Like a Lotus

Dear fellow netters--
I, too, enjoyed hearing Mike and meeting both he and Peter on Saturday
at Nor Sec CMLEA.  Could someone out there please rescue me?  In the
above novel a Laughing Christ of Baki is discussed at length.  Is the
statue a figment of M. L'Engle's wonderful imagination or is it a real
statue.  Thanks for the help.
