AP contemporary literature

Hi! I am in need of opinions on authors &/or titles of contemporary
literature suitable for high school Advanced Placement courses in English.
The teacher wants your opinion of Bernard Malamud, Isaac Singer, Saul
Bellow, Brodsky, John Updike (New stuff, not Rabbit), James Michener and
Sylvia Plath (No Bell Jar).  Please send negative & positive responses
