Winner's purse is $50,000

Red Lantern Award goes to the last musher into Nome.

Charlie Boulding (spelling?) of Nenana - "The heck with Roan"

Had a 2 1/2 hour lead coming into Roan and charged out of Roan
toward Nicolai
moving ahead about a dozen spots. Left in Roan all tied for
2nd place: Martin Buser, Jeff King, Bill Cotter, Rick
Swenson, Dee Jonrowe, ?? Swinle.

Boulding used the same strategry with a two hour lead to win the
Yukon Quest last year.

Boulding may be just rying to run at night because of predicted high temperature
s in the 20"s and take a rest in Nocolai rather than run during
the heat of the day.

As temas jockey for position it is premature to say who has the
best team.

Dee Dee Jonrowe says all tops teams are better this year than
last year and evently matched. No one stands out
dynamically.

Back up - Whether Boulding can carry the lead is anyone's guess.
The winner, however, is somewhere in the front.

The teams are not yet separated enough i the top however anybody
here right now is in the copetition.

Although it is early in the race past Idiatrod performance indicated that if you
aren't in the top 20 or close to it already you won't win the race.

Most racers started with 20 dogs. Most have dropped 1-2.

Just 3 days into the race only 5-6 with 20 dogs.

The Rainy Pass trail was a bit soft, dogs occasionally
had to punch through the snow, tripping once in a while which
is hard on their shoulders.

More tonight!!!
