John Goodlad asked the question, "How long has it been since instruction was on the faculty meeting's agenda?" My answer is, "Not since I can remember unless we had a special guest speaker."e I am certainly not suggesting that, however. Making teachers sit through that after a hard day in the trenches is cruel and unusual punishment. How about a series of short skits (maybe one per meeting) demonstrating one successful teaching strategy such as comparing and contrasting to teach higher level thinking skills. Or, a short testimonial from a teacher who has used a technique successfully with a "see me later for the details." Just a thought. In our hour and a half faculty meeting yesterday, we spent a good 15 minutes discussing daily dismissal procedures and the number of students in the halls. Were the teachers releasing them before their bus number was called? Heaven forbid! An alien from another planet visiting our faculty meetings would think that "control," not instruction, was our mission. -- . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Patricia (Pat) W.
