Greetings!
I am reporting for Ann Symons, and apparently my postings this
weekend could not be received and distributed over the NET because
of some confusion about my authorization to do so.... Hopefully
this posting gets out to all.

Catching up on weekend events: Martin Buser pulled out of Shaktoolik
this morning, Monday, at 2:36 Alaska time, just as the second place
musher, Rick Mackey was pulling in. Mackey rested briefly, pulling
out 2 1/2 hours later to follow Buser. Rick Swenson checked in
to Shaktoolik and is now 4 hours behind Buser. Jeff King is 2
additional minutes behind Swenson.

Front runners are speculating that Buser is setting too difficult
a pace to match. If he can keep up the pace, he will not be
caught. But,.....maybe his dogs will tire as they cross Norton
Sound.

Clear and pleasant weather is expected for the final days with
temperatures in the high teens and low twenties.

The leaders are still mushing with large teams of from 13-15 dogs.
Many at this stage of the race have dropped to 12 or fewer.

This weekend, Catherine Mormile, a 4 year musher, was disqualified
for using her satellite tracking device to call for emergency
rescue -- because she changed her mind..... Once the snowmachine
rescuers found her, she explained that she really was ok after
all.... The Iditarod Committee decided that her foolish actions
put others at potential risk along the trail.

Look for a winner by late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
All for now, Laila Tedford, JYMDLIB@alaska.bitnet
