The school district has 9 elementary schools, 3 middle, 3 high. There is no media services coordinator in our district office. Some elementary schools are small, at least two are @750+. Problem: We would like to promote Flexible Scheduling, Open Access, whatever you want to call it in all elementary schools. The district office says it is a school's decision (re: site-based mgt), but not all schools have large enrollments. Thus those librarians have open times in their fixed schedules to allow for other library activities. QUESTIONS: How can we promote "flexible scheduling" to be applied district wide? What should we call it? How can we answer the objections of those teachers who believe they will lose a planning time? How can we get teachers to understand that "flexible" scheduling doesn't make the librarian's job easier? Any ideas? If you have articles to send, please address them to Librarian Concord Elementary School 2701 Calrossie Road Anderson, SC 29621 Thanks for the input. We don't think this issue should be an individual principal v librarian topic. We all know most principals would rather appease teachers because there are more of them. Somehow the librarian is not viewed as a major contributor to the curriculum of the school. Looking to hear from others out there! Thanks again. <dbeach@anderson.sc.fred.org> ------------------ 34.31.15N, 82.39.25E Daniel R. Beach Teacher K-12 at Concord Elementary, Anderson V Anderson, SC
