Trade book use in Language Arts

Our school system, K-12 is instituting a new Language Arts curriculum that will
 use trade books as primary source material.  If anyone has had experience in t
he selection process of trade books for the classroom, their knowledge would be
 much appreciated.  We are also concerned about how schools who use trade books
 in the classrooms handle censorship complaints.  Many thanks.  I am at the hig
h school, but I would appreciate help from all grade levels.
