Group -- Are any of you getting the message from your administrators that once mulitple access points to the Internet is available in a school building, that library media centers no longer need to subscribe to magazine indexes or electronic encyclopedias? I have fielded this question from other library media specialists twice in recent days, and I find it a dark and gloomy prospect. Evidently administrators are being told that Internet access is equal to or supercedes the information available in the media center itself. Now, no one is a bigger fan than I am of the Internet, but I see the resources as a *second* line of offense -- it is still not as easy as walking up to one of the OPAC stations in the media center and pressing #4 for Magazine Article Summaries and immediately the information flashes on the screen. Has anyone else detected this trend and also am I missing something (has my paradigm not shifted sufficiently?) ***************************************************************************** Floyd Pentlin, Library Media Specialist / Lee's Summit High School, Div. 2 400 Blue Parkway / Lee's Summit, MO 64063 / VOICE: 816-251-3418 FAX: 816-251-3419 / E-MAIL: fpentlin@hobbs.leesummit.k12.mo.us "Always remember that you're unique, just like everyone else." *****************************************************************************
