Satellite programming

Netters-
We are contemplating the purchase of a satellite dish to use in our high
school.  I am seeking information from those of you who already use this
technology in your buildings.  What is the major use of the dish?  Do you
access special programming from NASA and other agencies?  How do you
learn what is available to bring down?  I know there are guides for
commercial programs, but where do I find information on the educational
type programs appropriate for a high school?  Thanks for any assistance
