Dear LM_NET Friends, Here are the responses I got to my request for favorite resources for teachers on the gopher and WWW. I hope you have as much fun exploring these sites as I did. Thanks again, for all your help. Being able to point out some of these excellent resources helped make my teacher inservice a big success! -Evie Funk From: IN%"sec@boombox.micro.umn.edu" "Stephen E. One is K-12 Internet Nuggets It can be found on the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse gopher under Reference Materials. The second item is a newsletter which I publish on a monthly basis. It is in two versions, electronic and print. The title is World Link. It is free to educators. If you want the print version for the 1994 - 95 school year, just send 9 self-addressed stamped envelopes. AskERIC points to the newsletter. On the main menu of AskERIC point to Electronic Journals. I also wrote a step-by-step instruction manual targeted to K-12 teachers on how to navigate the Internet. It is available from Greyden Press Information about the book can be found in the About World Link Newsletter. Linda C. I access it through the gopher server here at my university site. I am not sure how to access from another site. You might try WWW since the menus are in hypertext. The various documents and articles that are available through this cataloged can be sent using gopher software . I believe it offers everything any librarian or classroom teacher any where could want. Carol **************************************************** From: IN%"sbauer@teleport.com" I am a school library media specialist in Portland, Oregon. I am new to the "net" and just hooked up my two schools in early October. Last night I was at home 'surfing' on Netscape and went to Scholastic's WWW site. There was a lot of great information especially for classroom teachers. I can hardly wait to go to work tomorrow and show some of my teachers who are really interested in using the internet. It is a gopher server brought to us by those grand folks who produced THE WHOLE EARTH CATALOG a few decades back. Gopher.well.sf.ca.us is the gopher address. It's fun. Another fun gopher search is the topic "jokes". I am not responsible for the jokes you will find!! My philosophy about teachers learning the net is make it fun and something of personal interest to them. And remember that Rome was not built in a day!
