I'm a grad student just beginning my program. I've been enjoying my classes and am very optimistic, excited and anxious about my perspective future career as a media specialist. My father (psychiatrist by profession, philosopher by accident and penpal to Einstein, himself, by reasons only known to my father), had the gall to suggest to me the other day, that I should consider the possibility that I might be out of a job within the next three to five years because I might (to put it in a nutshell) be replaced by technology. This infuriated me, at first, because I think it scared me a bit. Then, after a moment's contemplation, I thought, "What better than to go to the source ?" Hence my question to the net. I would like to invite open discussion of this topic, especially with the AASL conference at our fingertips (excuse the pun). Please also excuse any boo-boos, as this is my first transaction to the net. And, I am extremely excited about this topic! Please respond to me personally, or to the group if you think particular comments might be of interest to all. Depending on the amount of discussion amongst us and the responses I receive personally, I will attempt to post a HIT summarizing all thoughts. Thanks to all, in advance. Let's just take a moment to give ourselves a pat on the proverbial back for choosing a profession so full of life! ***************************************** Kathryn Spriggs Georgia State University GSU graduate student Library Media Technology <mstkmsx@gsusgi2.gsu.edu> ****************************************
