Target -> PC use in k-6

Another question from our PTA meeting:

Our k-6 school has an Apple IIe or IIc (remember those) per classroom
and 3 quite old MACs.  The PTA has been approached start the process of
upgrading these systems.

Part of the discussion revolved around PC versus MACs.  PCs provide an
attractive alternative given that their 85% marketshare means:
- fierce price competition (especially for add-ons)
- availability of parent support
- the likelihood that MAC's will be like BETA, better but unfortunately
  the market voted for VHS.

Any feedback from people that use PC's in k-6 grades or even better have
made the switch from MACs to PCs (and lived :-), or suggestions as to
other listservs to use as a resource, would be appreciated!
