This is my first posting so please excuse errors...I have been enjoying reading all the LM news but it has added much time onto my day so haven't responded to anything yet...maybe I'll get the hang of it soon. Anyway, Massachusetts also requires a teaching certificate for school library/media specialists. And our governor signed an ed reform bill into law on June 18, 1993 which stated that from then on ALL teachers and administrators would have to be recertified every 5 years in ALL areas of certification. (Since the powers that be could not make up their minds for an entire year as to what recertification should actually entail, we get 6 years this first time.) All current teachers and admin. currently working must recertify themselves by June 18, 1999. And, since your next 5 years begins as soon as you collect your new certificate(s), there is no advantage to applying early. We are all eagerly awaiting the Great Paper Flood which promises to sink the city of Boston on that date when 100,000+ teachers send in their personal professional development folders on the same day! Well, I know that was off the subject a little........... Debbie Cranson Green Meadow Elementary School PreK-4 Maynard, MA Internet address: debcranson@MHS.Maynard.k12.MA.US
