Thanks to the dozen who responded to my problem of how to enter paperback fiction - with a matching MARC record for each copy of a title or listing all copies under one MARC record even though the copies have different ISBNs. All but one response said they used only one record and listed the copies under that. The one response on the other side felt it would limit future options and recommended a matching MARC record for each copy with a different ISBN. Reasons for varying from the standard included less time to enter records and le ss confusion for students to confusion for the student to see only one record. One librarian noted a huge difference in the research frustration level using on-line catalog and thus greater independence by students. A couple responses stated it is possible to add the ISBN of copies not the same as the record by adding that tag. I would welcome more reponses.
