Hi,
The afternoon JFK was shot I was a senior in high school. My last period
class was supposed to be a study hall in the balcony of the auditorium,
but I had figured a way around being there and spent that time in the gym
shooting baskets with a couple other varsity team members. Our being
there was not known to any teachers. It was while we were there that the
announcement came over the intercom. I remember feeling so very alone as
we tried to grasp what was happening to our world. Our need to be with
others was so strong it literally blew the whistle on our little
charade. We lost our secret time in the gym when we returned to where we
belonged that day. I probably would have gotten into more serious
trouble except for the general confusion and the fact that my Mom was a
teacher at the school and I had a reputation for following the rules.
