Hi: I'm currently getting my masters in Library and Information Science at the University of Maryland. I was in 7th grade when Kennedy was killed. I remember the Asst. Principal coming into my room and talking quietly to the teacher. Nothing was said to the students. An announcement came over the loud speaker that school was closing early - again no explanation. I think, looking back, there was a genuine concern that people would panic. With the cold war with Russia going on, people might have wondered if the assassination was an isolated event, or part of a larger effort to harm our government. Anyway, I remember sitting in the bus in the school's driveway, waiting to go home. Somebody had a transistor radio and we heard the news that way. I just remember riding home silently. It was tough learning that way because there was no one there to reassure us. We had been raised practicing monthly air raid drills the way you practice fire drills. Kennedy's death was very sad and scary.
