For those that have either an interest or a curiosity regarding dial-in
Union Catalogs, feel free to dial this one. The Duneland School Corp.,
winner of the AASL Best Library award has a dial-in union catalog that's
available to anyone with a modem. One of the unique elements is it's easy
access without requiring proprietary software on the remote side. In other
words, anyone that can call a BBS from home can access and search the
district's collection. Virtually any communications software for PCs will
work. Macs need to have software that supports ANSI-BBS terminal emulation.
The district also has modem sharing software installed in all of it's
schools which enable students and staff to dial out from any workstation on
the network. Currently, the dial-in is using only one phone line so if
there's a rush of callers, you may get a busy.
The number: 219-926-9968
Modem Settings: N,8,1 Up to 14.4 baud.
I'd be interested in your comments.
