Peter and I agree that library media specialist input into this research would be valuable. Mike Date: Sun, 27 Nov 94 22:47:36 EST >From: Ed George <EJGEORGE@VM.CC.PURDUE.EDU> To: mike@ericir.syr.edu To: Interested Teachers Fr: Edwin J. George (ejgeorge@vm.cc.purdue.edu) Dr. Katherine Cennamo (cennamo@vm.cc.purdue.edu) Su: Request for Assistance in Research Project Da: 27 Nov 1994 This posting is a request for comments on a research project at Purdue University. The project examines the following question: What should we be teaching pre-service teachers about the 'Information Superhighway'? This project will look at the responses from three different groups: Schools of Education, Public Schools, and Teachers who currently use the Internet. This posting is to request comments from the last group above, teachers or media specialists who currently use the Internet. If you fall in this group, or are simply willing to respond, please send us your comments. Because we are interested in evaluating what Schools of Education (SOE's) should be teaching the new teachers they train, we feel it is imperative to get the perspective of teachers who currently use the technology. We are seeking any level of input you can make, from quick one paragraph responses and up! Any response will be helpful! ;-) Please consider the following issues in respect to usage of the Internet in public school situations: o What type of training do you believe SOE's are responsible for providing to newly trained teachers. o Have new teachers in your school or district been adequately prepared to use computer/network technology? o Where do you see Internet usage in public schools headed? What do we (Schools, Governments, SOE's, etc) need to do to get there? We would also appreciate some examples of how Internet is used in your school. Additionally, any demographic data you choose to supply will be most helpful. Please DO NOT reply to this list. Send your comments to: ejgeorge@vm.cc.purdue.edu If you are interested in our results, we would be glad to share them with you. Please let us know. PLEASE NOTE: All data collected will remain confidential. Your name and institutional affiliation will be removed from your response prior to storage and will not be included in any data reporting. Only demographic data that you supply will be used. This anonymous data will then be stored in a locked file for a period of three years whereafter it will be destroyed. Contact either researcher, above, if you have any questions. Your choice to respond to this posting substantiates consent to participate in this research. ____________________ ____________________ | Ed George | | ejgeorge@vm.cc.purdue.edu | | (317) 423-4219 | ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' Purdue University ' Southwestern Middle School ' ' PhD Student in Ed.
