Shoeless Joe was not created. He was a outfielder named Joseph
Jefferson Jackson ( Shoeless Joe ) he played with the Chicago White
Sox's duirng the scandal of 1917 and was known as a member of the
"Chicago Black Soxs" as a result. The famous cartoon of the little boy
looking up and saying " Say it ain't so Joe", is referring to Shoeless
Joe. He died in 1951.
