If you have an automated circulation system, you can attach some bar codes
to index cards with "temporary"  written on them.  Write in the title of
the video on another card and paper clip them together.  Run the code
under the scanner. My system tells me the item does not exist do I want to
create a temporary one?  After I respond yes, it asks me for the title,
that's all--no other cataloguing info.  When the teacher returns the
video, you unclip the two cards( I just store these temp cards in my desk)
and you check in the video.  Then you may use the original temp card when
another case arises.
