Handmaid's Tale was part of an English curriculum adoption for our district
two years ago and we had a formal request to withdraw the book (as well as
several others). Fortunately, the books were allowed to remain as part of the
curriculum. However, teachers do send notes home explaining the content and
asking parents to contact the school if they prefer their child have an
alternative novel. Seems to be working well--so far no one has requested a
change.
