The Massachusetts School Library Media Assoc. and the Massachusetts Library Assoc. are collaborating on a pilot program to have information on using school, public and academic libraries available to student teachers. We are hoping to convince universities that student teachers should be required to integrate library use for themselves and the students they are working with while student teachers. The ideal would be for the state to require a library skills type course for teacher certification. To begin the process a committee has been meeting to plan a day of sharing. Three teams will meet on a Saturday. The teams will include a school LMS, a teacher, a public librarian, the director of student teachers, and the university librarian. We will be doing some brainstorming, some resource sharing, and further planning. The librarians will also do some modeling to show what we have to offer. If anyone has been involved in a similar project, or a similar sharing day, please send me some feedback on what works and what doesn't. The committee would also love to hear your thoughts or ideas on the process. Shelley Glantz, Library Media Specialist Arlington (MA) High School glantzs@a1.mec.mass.edu
