I went through much teeth-gnashing and hair-rending before I bought the Giver
for both my K-5 schools.  I bought it because it won the Newbery.  I bought it
because it is a book only fifth graders with a real interest in reading the book
will check out.  I decided it might be a book most students in my libraries
would not understand or appreciate, but it was one that I should have available
for those who would.
