Printers and Barcodes

Dear LM-Netters,

I have to buy a printer for our new automation system to among other
things print barcodes.  Given my buget, I would like to use the HP
Deskjet 520.  Our software vendor (Surpass/2) suggests laser printers.

What are those of you who print your own barcodes using?

Is anyone using Surpass/2 with an inkjet printer?
