At Nottingham H.S., we are having quite a problem with students arriving late to their first period class. We are an urban school, grades 9-12. Some students walk; some come on the regular city buses; some drive their own cars; others are dropped off by parents. We are using a variety of methods to discourage tardiness: detention, calling home, counseling students. But tardiness continues to increase. I am on the Discipline Committee and we have chosen "To decrease tardy arrivals to first period class" as one of our major goals for next year. Can you help? Do you or have you had this problem in your school? What solutions have you used to decrease tardiness to class, esp. first period? Please respond to me directly at jagray@freeside.scsd.k12.ny.us I will summarize results and post a hit if there is interest. Thanks for helping. I know this is a little out of our usual discussion sphere - but since I am a librarian serving on a discipline committee, were else would I logically turn for help! :-) P.S. I'm checking the LM_NET archives and the k12Admin archives and ASKERIC also. PPS - If my address (signature) appears twice, it's because I tried to incorporate it into my file and am not sure whether it's working yet or not.
