Hey, all. I posted this hit on Saturday, but several people have since sent suggestions and asked me to post a hit, so I thought I'd repost the list. By the way, the winner of the great inventor/sleuth mystery search was (drum roll) _The Marvelous Inventions of Alvin Fernald_ by Clifford Hicks. Again, thanks to everyone who has helped with this request! *** (forwarded message) Dear LM_NETTERs, Many thanks for all of your ideas about the inventor/sleuth book my colleague is looking for. Twenty-six people sent suggestions! A few of you asked if I would post a hit, so here goes. It is a list of long-ago, well-loved books featuring boy inventors, many of which I haven't read and am now very interested in finding. I've summarized the suggestions for brevity's sake: The Great Brain series by John D. Fitzgerald The Danny Dunn series by Jay Williams _Danny Dunn and the Homework Machine_ _Danny Dunn and the Smallifying Machine_ _Danny Dunn and the Automatic House_ _Danny Dunn and the Anti-Gravity Paint_ (and there was also one on time travel) The Alvin Fernald books by Clifford Hicks _The Marvelous Inventions of Alvin Fernald_ (Scholastic, 1965) The McGurk mysteries by Hildick _George's Marvellous Medicine_ by Roald Dahl _Lazy Tommy Pumpkinhead_ by William Pene DuBois _The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian_ (author Lloyd Alexander?) _Homer Price_ by Robert McCloskey _Henry Huggins_ by Beverly Cleary Books by Robert Lawson Einstein Anderson series *** Can't wait to hand this list to the teacher in question--she'll be amazed at all of you (and the power of the 'net). Anyone want to know which book rings the bell? ;) Thanks again, Elizabeth Bluemle City & Country School josie@blackbox.cc.columbia.edu
