Three concepts make a flexible schedule work. They are self-checkout by students, a philosphy that books are checked out and returned when the student is done with the book(if the book is read in a day, it is back in day), and a solid library curriculum that allows the students to become independent library users. For example, I have four year olds that use the library each day usually finding what they are looking for. This allows me to set up flexible times that meet the needs of the teachers at a given time. At the same time the library is always open for checking out books and reseach.
