REF: Jewish prayer ceremony

We are working and need an answer by 5 p.m. (EST) on Sat., Dec 2.  HELP!!

A patron needs to know about about a wooden box or a block of wood that
Jewish people use in prayer ceremonies.  What is its' name and what is it
used for?  TIA
