Technology: Yea or Nay?

Okay, all of you who love philosophical debates - here's your chance!

Has the quality of life been enhanced by technology or harmed by it?
If the following people were alive today, how would they answer the
question:  Aristotle, Matthew (the apostle), Shakespeare,
Machiavelli?

This is for a debate in a graduate class.  I thought it would be
interesting to bring in as many different replies as I could gather.
