Thanks for all of the information from all over the world!!! Would
you believe the local paper (Youngstown Vindicator) carried a full
2 columns last night! Here is a summary of it and your responses:
"Directors of BULLETIN OF ATOMIC SCIENTISTS are celebrating 50th
anniversary of warning against dangers of nuclear war" Clock
signifies likelihood of nuclear war. Last reset in 1991 = 17
minutes to midnight (symbol of nuclear apocalypse) when US and
Soviet union signed Strategic Arms Reduction treaty. Past
decisions were made in private (1980 - 7 to midnight, 1981 4 min
to midnight, 1984 3 minutes to midnight, arms race accleration)

Bronze 18 inch clock hangs in bulletins headquarters in University
of Chicago campus: hourhand alays positioned near midnight, minute
hand superimposed on map of world. Clock debut: 1947 (7 to midnight)

There were also articles in USA TODAY and a 1990 article in NY TIMES.
Hopes this helps. THANKS A MILLION for making my first experience
a great one. It sure impressed some of the other faculty!
