GEN: Who is...?

We have been stumped by an extra credit question from one of my
Social Studies teachers.  The students have been asked:
    "Who is Lester Wire and what contributions did he make to land
transportation?"

The students and I have searched every source that we have and can
think of, including books on inventors, transportation, American
biographies.

Can anyone help us?
