There are two types of wreaths in the UK today. One is the kind used to
signify heroism in death such as the wreath of poppies on Remembrance Day
and occasionally other funerals (without poppies); the other is a Christmas
wreath of fir and holly typically hung on the door of a house over
Christmas. Neither of these should be confused with the Roman style of
laurel wreath celebrating victory (typically after a Grand Prix motor
race).
I have seen wreaths used at weddings though they are invariably bright or
light in colour, to distinguish them, no doubt, from the sombre
associations with death.
