Thanks to all the many people who took the time to respond. I will try to summarize all the messages: Most people said a separate section will not work as students will not use it if they perceive it to be a section of easy books. A few said they do have such a section but give it a catchy title so students will not feel singled out for using it. The most frequent solution was to place some sort of sticker on the spine and guide students to those books. Several people said they prepare a bibliography of these books for their teachers and leave it up to the teachers to guide their students to the books. As to how to determine the reading level a few suggested teachers help one even went as far as recommending students could also help. My principal was impressed with all the responses and hopes we can come up with a workable plan for our school. She said instead of retroactively trying to mark books we begin marking only new purchases which will certainly be easier. If you have any other suggestions to make please feel free as I will still have to serve on the committee to implement this plan. You all are great and it is a privilege to work with you.
