Subject: The AFRICAN-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE on Cd-ROM Accessible Archives has announced plans to publish the complete texts of major 19th century African American newspapers on CD-ROM. THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE will eventually bring together more than fifty newspapers beginning with the FREEDOMS JOURNAL. These newspapers are rich with first hand reports of the major events and issues of the nation's history, slavery and emancipation, as well as detailed accounts of everyday life that embody the very fabric of the African-American experience: early biographical material, essays and editorials: social, economic, and political observations; poetry, prose, and song; vital statistics; and advertisements. Newspapers in the AFRICAN-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE project will be made available in chronological order with the addition of 12 to 15 million new words each year. The first installment, scheduled for release in the fall of 1996, will include the following titles: 1. Freedom's Journal (1827 - 1830) New York. 2. Colored American (1837 - 1842) New York. 3. The North Star (1847 - 1851) Rochester, New York. 4. Frederick Douglass' Paper (1851 - 1855) Rochester, New York 5. National Era (1847 - 1860), Washington D.C.
