Thanks to those who responded to my request for plant related CDs for 2nd grades to use. Several people recommended one by National Geographic, which I think is the one I've read good reviews of. In addition, the following two suggestions were received: Land Designer by Green Thumb Software has an excellent presentation of flower garden plants, from White Flower Farm. Most have color photos. All have growing parameters (water, soil, growing zone, longevity, etc.) You can even design your own garden right down to the walkway compositions. Doesn't cover "wild" plants though. the Missouri Conservation Department has put out a wonderful CD-ROM called "Habitactics". I really think any age can use it--we've had third graders playing it as well as my middle school students. (I even have fun with it.) The program is composed of two parts--a short game and a long game. I believe the short game might help with what you are looking for. It has pictures of plants and the student must match the plant with its habitat. You can also click on a question mark and information on the specific plant will be given (both spoken and written). I am really sold on the whole CD program and the kids love it. Great graphics, animation, etc.--and the best part, it only costs $10.00.
