A history teacher at my school is frantically trying to find out some
infor on William Rice, the philanthropist who the namesake of Rice
University. Was he ever in line for the Presidency, or temporarily
served as President, or something like it? He seems to think that this
did occur, but we cannot find any info in our collection. Rice lived
through the 1800's, can't remember the exact dates, but it covered most
of the century. Any knowledgeable folks out there? Rice alumni?
