I am quite pleased not to give grades in library, and hate the idea of
using that as a disciplinary measure. I've told the children they are
welcome in the library, but that it is a privilege. If that privilege is
abused with unacceptable behavior, then the offender is given a
choice--(s)he can go back to the classroom or go to the office. Staying
in the library is not an option. I simply state that I want the library
to be a fun and relaxing place for all, and that this person is affecting
the rights of others.

When they are with the teacher, the option of going to the classroom is
no longer there... I have found that most teachers have no problem with
my stepping in and taking a stand--in fact they are grateful.
