I have a middle School, 99 percent of the books are checked out by
student assistances. When I was going on line I taught my students to
type in books they in turned taught others. Yes they made mistakes, so do
I. It became a challenge for them to find the time to come in and HELP.
Without their help it would have taken forever. I tried to weed before
they typed, some got good at weeding damaged books, they left them for me
to check over. If there were any questions about anything I was close
by, usually teaching or helping other students with assignments.
I don't know how this would work in elementary, maybe with your
oldest class, there are always a few who are more mature than the
others. There are two or three who want to be assistants. Once again I
encourage students in this because they need to learn there is work
involved in being a librarian. None of it comes easy.
