According to an article in the San Franciso Examiner 2/26/78,"The Nancy Drew series was the creation of Edward Stratemeyer, an amazing man who not only unleashed Nancy, but was responsible for the Bobbsey Twins, the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, the Rover Boys and many other series characters. Because the Stratemeyer Syndicate had so many series, some of them were staff-written, not produced by one author. Contrary to widespread opinion, however, this was never true of Nancy Drew. Stratemeyer himself wrote the first three Nancy Drew adventures, and when he died in 1930 his daughter, Harriet S. Adams, took over the syndicate and the series. She has written all the subsequent Nancy Drew books herself."
