Just a librarian

    After listening to an inspirational speaker at a CMLEA conference out
here in California one year, I decided to follow his advice, and display my
credentials and diplomas.  His theory was that other professionals (doctors,
lawyers, accountants, administrators) hang all that stuff on the wall, so why
shouldn't teachers (and librarians).  Since hanging them on the wall nearest
my desk (which is out in the open in our library), I have had many students,
fellow teachers, and visiting parents express respectful surprise at the
amount of education it takes to do our job.  It's not much, but it does raise
people's awareness a little.
