Well, I can't blame you. I constantly hear , youmean you have a college
degree for this? Our profession must take part of the blame. We have sat
back and not done the PR job we need to do. I'm still wating for ALA and
AASL to do something nation wide about our image. In tis day of budget
cuts and site based management, how many of us would our bosses fight to
keep!!!! Most teachers think we babysit and in some cases that is true!!
We also have many in our profession who are more concerned about pretty
books on the shelf and not being bothered with kids. They became
librarians or media specialists to get out of the classroom becasue it
was easier. The people who need to read this are probably not the people
who read LM Net. We all need to work harder on our image and project a
professional image. In study after study, libraries are left out. I also
have a degree in Administration and Supervision and believe me, libraries
were not mentioned in my textbooks. I even wrote to the publishers and
authors, but yet to have a single reponse, that was several years ago.
Good luck in the fight, sometimes it does become overwheliming.
